2012 is here and the club already has events and dives added to the Club Calendar as well as lots of plans for the upcoming dive season, so come back often as we are adding to it all the time.

2012 Annual Membership Information

New Diver Membership (course completed within past 6 months): $25

Personal Membership: $50

Family Membership: $75

Membership renewal must be paid in full. Charters may be paid in full or 3 payments made based upon a 35% deposit, 35% second payment, 30% final payment schedule.  Also, DDSC clothing is available for sale and may be purchased using the same payment schedule. All payments made must be cash, cheques payable to "Durham Divers Scuba Club" (not Durham Divers), or credit card and direct withdrawal using PayPal. Please be advised that many of our charter operators must charge the HST. In addition, some operators have updated their pricing to reflect the increased cost of diesel fuel. Sorry, but this reality is beyond our control. If you want a great deal, come out to the Young's Point Drift Dive or our spring picnic at Marmora for some free fun

Remember...the most important date of our club dive season is the Dive Charter Sign-Up day on a Sunday afternoon at the end of March. It will be held again this year at Iroquois Sports Gardens Cafe.

Lake Ontario Food Web

To learn more about the life that exists in Lake Ontario, click on the image above of a fish that only eats when hand-fed. In fact, this fish has evolved to the point that it can choose between food that is safe to consume and food that is suspect. The USDA is conducting field trials to determine if restaurants should be required to use such species of fish to test the quality of each meal prepared before it is served to restaurant patrons. Preliminary results show a positive response from the fish as they continue to grow in size. One particular fish that officials simple refer to as "Spot" will be the featured guest in February on Oprah when it discusses the stresses of such an occupation.

There are no plans to use these fish in Canada, other than on Spadina Ave. in Toronto.
